January 3, 2003

I’m sitting in my hotel room in fabulous Redding, CA, looking out the window at the snow-capped mountains...and cursing them for screwing up my cell phone reception. Anyway, I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. Mine was over in 10 minutes. I had so much to do.

I did a gig with the Day After Daze boys in Tampa, FL, last month that was just the bomb. Met some really cool new people and batted .1000 on the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersberg. I have been to Tampa 3 times now, and have been to the museum every time. If you are ever there, you simply must check it out. Thanks to my new bud Scott for taking us over. That gig also marked the first time I have gotten to play with an incredible keyboardist by the name of Tollak Ollestad. He has played with the likes of Don Henley, Al Jarreau, Christopher Cross, Gino Vanelli, Dave Grusin, Brian McKnight, John Tesh, and Boney James. He has also performed on “The Tonight Show” with Kenny Loggins, Tanya Tucker, and one of my personal heroes, Chet Atkins. He is also a Hohner endorsee and quite a rippin’ harp player.

My Christmas visit home was nice but way too short. As usual, Dave Hineman and I had quite a tear at Leon’s Place the Monday night before Christmas. All you guys that live in the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex and haven’t been to see us there are missing out. What a ride. Thanks again to Bill Cornish. The honorable Rev Muddy Gates was ill that night, but I got to jam for the first time with Joey Love, another great player and songwriter. Feel better Muddy...

Anyway, gotta fly. Got a lunch date. More later
